Job Posting: 8/20/12: Music & Movement Instructor

| August 20, 2012

Third Street Music School Settlement, located in Manhattan’s East Village, seeks an experienced early childhood music instructor to teach Music & Movement to full classes of students in local schools during the 2012-13 school year.  These children range in age from preschoolers to third graders.  The Music & Movement program incorporates song, movement and performance on Orff instruments, enabling the children involved to play different roles at different times. Experience with Orff instruments is necessary, as is some experience teaching elementary recorder to the older students.

The intent of this program is to develop versatile musicians who can work in many different mediums involving music.  Children are encouraged to “be their own instruments” – to develop their own creativity.  Students, after 25 weeks of work, have a repertoire of 20 songs and games that they can perform independently and in groups.

The instructor will report to Third Street’s School Partnership Manager.  The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:  (1) at least one year of proven experience teaching early childhood music and movement to students in a school or community setting, (2) training in Orff, Kodaly or Musikgarten preferred, (3) experience teaching recorder and Orff instruments and (4) a Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred in Music Education.

Please send a cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications for the job, your resume (including teaching background) and three references to Nancy Morgan, Director of School & Community Partnerships at nmorgan@thirdstreetmusicschool.org.
