Summer Field Options 2010

CHORAL A&HM 4201B/002(CRN: 20327)
This summer the Lab Chorus, directed by Nicole Becker, will consist of middle school students who are part of the Say Yes to Education program. We will meet July 12-August 6, Mon-Thurs from 1-3 pm at Columbia Secondary School (123rd and Amsterdam) plus three additional Fridays: July 23 and 30 and August 6. The goal of the chorus is to introduce kids to choral singing in an environment in which each child’s abilities and interests are honored and each child’s voice is heard. Fieldwork students will work with Ms. Becker on every aspect of creating and implementing the chorus curriculum: choosing repertoire, facilitating student composition projects, developing creative rehearsal strategies, rehearsing with students in both large and small groups, addressing vocal technique, and preparing a public performance. Fieldwork students will meet with Ms. Becker two times per week outside of rehearsal at a mutually agreed upon time. For more information, contact Nicole Becker.

EARLY CHILDHOOD A&HM 4201AB (CRN: 20319)
Are you interested in Early Childhood Music? Would you like to gain experience in your own teaching practice? Enroll in Fieldwork in Early Childhood Music, A&HM 5201/003, where you will have the opportunity to plan and implement meaningful musical experiences each week for one age-grouped class of either infant, toddler, or preschooler classes at the Rita Gold Center on campus. You will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, colleagues, and a supervising teacher, honing skills in both curricular design and responsive pedagogy. Our focus is on age-appropriate, musically relevant experiences that generate self-initiated discovery. Class will meet June 8 through July 8. Please contact Rebecca Straayer for more information.
