“Very Young People’s Concerts” opportunity

| November 2, 2010

Dr. Custodero and the Early Childhood Cohort will again be collaborating with the New York Philharmonic on the Very Young People’s Concerts this year. The Very Young People’s Concerts are designed for children ages 3-6 and their families. Teachers College students assist by providing pre-concert activities with NY Phil musicians, for the young concert attendees and their families. This involves interactive experiences involving introducing the orchestral instruments, facilitating musical games with the children, and leading activities related to the topic of the concert. We will develop these together and in conjunction with the New York Philharmonic performers. After the chamber music performance, we also assist with a “post concert” time where children are able to play a mini violin, cello, and bass. This is a great opportunity to have hands on experience with an education partnership with the NYPhil, and to get to know and work with fabulous musicians.

From the NY Philharmonic website…
“Designed especially for 3 to 6-year-olds, Very Young People’s Concerts introduce youngsters to classical music through imaginative engagement, active listening, and hands-on music-making with members of the New York Philharmonic. This season, in Debussy and Friends, we feature gorgeous Impressionist music set to stories of Philippe the Penguin by our own Dorian Rence.”
